During the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) got left behind at the Kingdom for safekeeping while he’s on the run from the Saviors. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s about to be reunited with Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), his best friend in the whole wide world who hasn’t already been killed.
Norman Reedus was not a happy camper during the filming of the first half of The Walking Dead’s seventh season. But that’s okay, because it turns out he wasn’t supposed to be happy about it. We spoke to Reedus about some of the fan complaints about the first eight episodes, and then he unloaded with some complaints of his own, even revealing that he took those complaints straight to showrunner Scott M. Gimple.
He was stripped of both his clothes and his dignity, forced to eat dog food and listen to the most infuriatingly peppy song ever recorded on a continuous loop, but Daryl Dixon escaped all that in The Walking Dead’s midseason finale.
“Daryl.” If anyone ever doubted the strength of The Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), that doubt was erased with that very word. All Daryl had to do was pledge his loyalty by saying “I’m Negan” in exchange for avoiding further torture and instead becoming a top lieutenant in Negan’s army while getting all the perks and benefits that come with it. But when the time came to choose his fate, Daryl refused, citing his own name instead before being taken back to his cell.
It was big statement in a big episode for Daryl. EW spoke to Reedus to get his take on everything from that critical choice to that surprising nude scene. EW also asked the actor about his character’s emotional breakdown after viewing that gruesome Polaroid and Daryl’s unique relationship with his tormentor, Dwight.

Over the next few days, we’ll share with you some of what the cast can reveal about Season 7 of The Walking Dead.
Today we hear from Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), and Norman Reedus (Daryl).

You won’t have to wait long to see Norman Reedus back on AMC as his new unscripted motorcycle series, Ride with Norman Reedus, debuts June 12 on the network, but you will have to wait another four-and-a-half months to see if Daryl Dixon survived that season 6 cliffhanger of The Walking Dead.
